The research activity at BRGV Buzau significantly contributes to saving the indigenous genetic heritage in its activity profile – vegetable, floriculture, aromatic and medicinal plants, given that these are currently exposed to major threats: climate change, genetic erosion, genetic drift, mutations, and other mutagenic factors such as the chemical industry, environmental pollution, invasive plants, soil degradation, and pathogenic agents.

BRGV Buzau contributes to the protection of the plant heritage, through firm and efficient measures regarding the safe storage of plant genetic resources, in cells with controlled atmosphere, as well as thorough knowledge of them through high precision tests in accordance with international standards. At the same time, valuable genotypes owned by the Bank are protected through homologation, patenting, and genetic fingerprinting, as appropriate.
