Camelia Bratu graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Bucharest in 2012, specializing in Biology. She began her professional career in Romanian horticulture in 2013 at the Genetic, Breeding, and Biodiversity Conservation Laboratory of the Research and Development Station for Vegetable Cultivation in Buzau. She held the position of Research Assistant, working under the coordination of Dr. Ing. Costel Vinatoru.

She continued her studies by pursuing a Master’s degree in Horticulture Management and Biodiversity Conservation at the Faculty of Horticulture, University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Bucharest. Since 2015, she has worked as a Scientific Researcher in the same team at the Genetic, Breeding, and Biodiversity Conservation Laboratory. Her professional development continued with her enrollment in the Doctoral School of Engineering and Management of Plant and Animal Resources at USAMVB in 2016, where she is currently a PhD candidate.

The knowledge she acquired in the fields of Biology and Horticulture throughout her professional training contributed to the support and development of the Genetic, Breeding, and Biodiversity Conservation Laboratory. She has been involved as both a project leader and a team member in projects funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, as well as in National Projects coordinated and funded by MADR and UEFISCDI.

The activities carried out within these projects and the Laboratory have focused on studying the effects of climate change on major vegetable crops in Romania, identifying genotypes, varieties, and cultivars of vegetables that exhibit increased resistance to climate change effects, studying new technologies to mitigate the negative effects of climate change on vegetable crops, and obtaining new varieties of vegetables, medicinal plants, and aromatic plants in Romanian agriculture. These activities have led to the publication of scientific articles as the main author or co-author in indexed journals, participation in national and international conferences and specialized communications, as well as co-authoring the “Special Vegetable Cultivation Treaty” with Dr. Ing. Bianca Musat, under the coordination of Dr. Ing. Costel Vinatoru.

Her experience gained throughout the years of training in Biology and Horticulture enables her to continue her work as a Scientific Researcher at the Plant Genetic Resources Bank for Vegetable, Floriculture, Aromatic, and Medicinal Plants in Buzau since 2021. As an expert in biology and biochemistry, her main responsibility within the bank is the taxonomic classification of biobankable plants, including endemic species, local populations, newly identified and preserved cultivars. She also conducts biochemical analyses to determine the chemical composition of plants for identifying their potential uses.
